Broforce Review

Digtal Crack
xbox one

magine a game that channeled everything we loved about the action movies with the 80s and 90s. Make a game that took the theory behind The Expendables and ramped it down to 11. Now imagine that this mythical game would be a pixel art platformer that harnessed all the goodness already mentioned.

Now stop imagining, grab a PS4 controller, and download Broforce this very instant!

Let me admit, I did not jump on the Broforce wagon if the game made its debut using the pc and Mac last year. I have no excuse; I became remiss. But when Sony offered mafia wars via PlayStation Plus, I had to jump in. The result may be mad fun to me. I almost severed my ties with Digital Crack as a consequence of all the multiplayer agro, but we were having too much fun to stay mad!

The premise behind Broforce is straightforward: you are a bro, an über-masculine character modeled as soon as the action movie stalwarts in the 80s and 90s. What they are are parodies of those well-known action heroes: Rambro, Brommando, B.A. Broracus, and also the not-masculine-but-still-badass Ellen Ripbro. You fight terrorists, rescue bro teammates, and destroy all things in sight in pursuit of your main goal: liberating the world of baddies!

The game is a pixel art-themed platform shooter which can be described as Contra on steroids. You guide your bro through the levels, blowing up baddies and rescuing comrades. The controls are tight every movement is fluid. Interactions with the environment may seem unforgiving, however they are fair. If you fall of the edge or get crushed with a block, you were probably at fault.

Along the way, you reach checkpoints in which you raise the American flag (FUCK YEA!) and take on bosses. Every time you rescue a bro or POW, you assume the function of a different bro. Each bro has different abilities; Brominator includes a minigun, while Bronan the Barbarian wields swords. The variability in bros and weapon sets rocks !.

Video game news

Playing alone is a great experience, but it’s in multiplayer in which the game becomes a truly visceral experience. There’s nothing beats the “fun” of progressing by way of a level, only to get one of your fellow bros to throw a grenade and break the bottom under you, or light a flamethrower and immolate my way through front of you - including those explosive barrels you happen to be standing next to. Friendships will probably be tested with this game!

What are the drawbacks? Well, very few. People who don’t like platformers is sure to be turned off from this game. Also, many places will feel cheap using its kill areas if playing solo. Multiplayer about the PS4 is also pretty laggy, slowing the overall game down to a crawl at most inopportune moments.

Despite these niggles, Broforce can be a wonderfully chaotic experience. Devolver Digital is a publisher that knows how to deliver a high-octane experience, and this game is no exception. In the event the prospect of controlling Bro Dredd or Brobocop in a platform shooter can be your dream, this game is really a foregone conclusion. If you much like to play a great game, or you revel in playing chaotic games with friends, the bros are waiting to scratch that itch.
